What the Travel Cap does
The Travel Cap seals the bottle, and that is its whole job. Food grade silicone, solid across the top with no opening, and it pushes down firmly over the 55mm neck to hold water in and keep everything else out.
We ship this cap with every
Starter Bundle, and it is the only closure in that box. Buy one here when you want a spare for the car, when the original has gone missing, or when you keep a second bottle in rotation.
Which bottle it fits
The Travel Cap fits
the 15 litre bottle only. The 750ml and the 11 litre bottles use a different neck, so this cap will not seal either of them.
The 15L is the large carboy style bottle with the moulded side handle and the push tap near the base. Its neck measures 55mm.
Our caps are made for Alkalined bottles only. Neck sizes vary between brands, and a cap that measures the same will not necessarily seal, so we do not recommend them for other bottles.
Take your water with you
Use the Travel Cap
any time the bottle is moving or standing idle, for example:
- Carrying it from the refill station to the car
- Sitting in the boot on the drive home
- Resting on the bench or in the fridge between fills
Because it is completely sealed, it is the right cap for transport and the wrong cap for dispensing. We would still carry the bottle upright, as you would with any 15 litres of water.
The one thing to check before you buy
A sealed cap stops the bottle pouring freely from its tap. Water leaving the bottle has to be replaced by air coming in. With the Travel Cap on, no air gets in, so the flow stutters or stops altogether.
If you use your bottle as a benchtop dispenser, you want the vented
Dispenser Cap instead, or as well. Keeping both covers you either way, and swapping them takes a couple of seconds.
Which of the three caps you need
Each cap solves a different problem. The short version is seal it, pour from it, or lock it down.

Care and cleaning
- Rinse the cap when you rinse the bottle.
- Let it dry fully before sealing a stored bottle, so nothing sits damp.
- Store the bottle itself in a cool dry place, out of direct sun.
Will the Travel Cap fit my Alkalined bottle?
It fits the 15 litre bottle only, the large carboy style one with a side handle and a tap near the base. The 750ml and 11 litre bottles take a different neck.
What is the difference between the Travel Cap and the AlkaLock Cap?
Both seal the bottle, but they hold differently. The Travel Cap is soft silicone that pushes on. The AlkaLock Cap is a rigid cap with a hinged lever that clamps down, which gives a more positive, more secure hold for longer trips.
Can I pour from the tap with the Travel Cap on?
No, and this is the most common mix up. The Travel Cap is sealed, so air cannot get in to replace the water leaving through the tap. Use the vented Dispenser Cap for benchtop pouring.
Is this the cap that came with my Starter Bundle?
Yes. The Travel Cap is the only closure supplied with the Starter Bundle, so this is the correct replacement if you need another.
What is the Travel Cap made of?
Food grade silicone, and it is BPA free. So is the bottle it seals, which is BPA free PET.
How should I carry the bottle?
Sealed and upright. Keeping a full 15 litre bottle upright is the sensible way to move that much water regardless of which cap is fitted.
