What the AlkaLock Cap does
The AlkaLock Cap
clamps shut rather than simply pushing on. It is a rigid cap with a sealed top and a hinged lever on the side. Fit it over the neck, bring the lever down, and it locks into place rather than relying on the grip of soft silicone.
That is the whole difference between this cap and the
Travel Cap. Both seal the bottle. We designed this one to hold itself there mechanically.
When it earns its place
Choose the AlkaLock Cap
when the bottle is going to be handled. A 15 litre bottle carries real weight, and a full bottle rolling in a car boot puts more load on a closure than the same bottle sitting on a kitchen bench.
We would reach for it on longer drives, weekends away, and any trip where the bottle is going in a boot rather than staying on a bench. It is also the one we would suggest if a cap has ever worked loose on you.
Which bottle it fits
The AlkaLock Cap fits
the 15 litre bottle only, at 55mm neck. The 750ml and 11 litre bottles take a different neck.
Check which bottle you have before ordering. The 15L is the large carboy style one with a moulded side handle and a push tap near the base.
Why the AlkaLock Cap will not pour from the bench tap
The AlkaLock Cap has no vent, so like the Travel Cap it will not let the bottle pour freely from its built in tap. Air cannot get in to replace the water leaving, and the flow stalls.
For benchtop dispensing you want the vented
Dispenser Cap. Keeping the AlkaLock Cap for transport and the Dispenser Cap for the bench covers both jobs, and swapping them over when the bottle comes home from a fill takes a couple of seconds.
Which of the three caps you need
Three closures, three jobs.
Seal it, pour from it, or lock it down.
| Cap |
What it does |
Best for |
| Travel Cap |
Solid silicone push on seal |
Transport and everyday storage |
| Dispenser Cap |
Vented centre admits air |
Pouring from the bench tap |
| AlkaLock Cap |
Hinged lever clamps it shut |
The most secure hold for longer trips |
All three share the same 55mm fit. If you are weighing the Travel Cap against this one, our honest answer is that the Travel Cap is enough for a short trip home from the station, and the AlkaLock Cap earns its money once the bottle travels further or more often.
Ask us if you would rather talk it through.
How to fit it
Line the cap up
square on the neck before you close the lever. Forcing the lever on a cap that is sitting crooked is the one way we know of to get a poor seal.
- Place the cap flat over the bottle neck.
- Check it is seated evenly all the way round.
- Bring the hinged lever down until it locks.
- Lift the lever to release when you next fill.
Once your bottle is sealed, the
refill station map will show you where to top it up, and the
Our Water page explains how the water is purified.
On delivery, postage is $12 and free shipping starts at $50, so it is worth adding this cap to a bundle or a second cap rather than ordering it on its own.

Care and cleaning
- Rinse the cap when you rinse the bottle.
- Dry it fully, including around the hinge, before storing.
- Check the lever moves freely and the seal sits flat before each trip.
What is the difference between the AlkaLock Cap and the Travel Cap?
Both seal the bottle, but they hold differently. The Travel Cap is soft silicone that pushes on and grips. The AlkaLock Cap is rigid, with a hinged lever that clamps it onto the neck for a more positive, more secure hold. Pick the AlkaLock Cap if the bottle travels.
Can I pour from the bench tap with the AlkaLock Cap on?
No. It is a sealed cap with no vent, so air cannot enter to replace the water leaving through the tap. Use the vented Dispenser Cap for that.
How does the AlkaLock Cap compare to the other caps?
It is the most secure closure in the Alkalined range, and it is leak resistant. The hinged lever clamps the cap onto the neck rather than relying on friction, which is why it is the one to choose when the bottle is being moved.
Will the AlkaLock Cap fit my bottle?
It fits the 15 litre bottle only, at 55mm neck. The 750ml and 11 litre bottles take a different neck.
Why choose this over the cheaper Travel Cap?
Because it locks rather than grips. For a short trip home from the refill station the Travel Cap does the job. For a full 15 litre bottle in a car boot, on a longer drive, or moved regularly, a mechanical clamp is the more reassuring closure.
What is the AlkaLock Cap made of?
A rigid polymer, and it is BPA free. So is the bottle it seals, which is BPA free PET.
